Biography of Michael Shaw (1940- )
Michael Hearne Shaw was a founding member of the Kansas Preservation Alliance (KPA) in 1978, serving as the organization's first vice president and then as the organization's second president. He edited the KPA newsletter for 16 years.
In addition to his involvement with the KPA, Shaw was involved with the Lawrence Preservation Alliance (LPA). Shaw served as the LPA president in 1993 and then as its vice-president in 1996. He also edited the LPA Newsletter.
Shaw taught at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas as a Classics professor. He is now a professor emeritus.

Scope and Contents
This collection consists of applications, Kansas Preservation Alliance (KPA) meeting minutes and agendas, Lawrence Preservation Alliance (LPA) minutes and agendas, financial reports for both organizations, various board of directors and membership directories, recruitment information, the bylaws and articles of incorporation for the LPA, correspondence, pamphlets, brochures, newsletters and flyers promoting the KPA and LPA.
Specific buildings identified in this collection include the Old First National Bank Building in Smith Center, Kansas and the Turnhalle; Barber School; St. Luke African Methodist Episocpal Church (AME); the Poehler Rudiger House; and Old Livery Stable, all in Lawrence, Kansas.
Arrangement
Materials remain in the order in which they arrived at Spencer Research Library. Shaw kept most materials from the Kansas Preservation Alliance (KPA) separate from the Lawrence Preservation Alliance (LPA), except for some notebooks where he kept track of meetings for both organizations.
