Biographies of Don Preston Fambrough (1922 - 2011) and Delfred Few Fambrough (1923 - 2001)
Don Preston Fambrough was born October 19, 1922 in Longview, Texas. He graduated from Longview High School in 1941 and attended the University of Texas-Austin before enlisting in the Air Force during World War II. After completing his service, Don enrolled at the University of Kansas (KU) in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1946.
Don played fullback and linebacker for four years at Longview High School, leading him to play freshman football at the University of Texas. He would go on to coach at KU, East Texas State, and Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas.
Don started coaching with KU in 1948 as an assistant coach under Jules Sikes. He became the head coach in 1971 and served two four-year stints as KU's head football coach, once in 1971-1974 and again in 1979-1982.
Don married Delfred (Few) Fambrough in 1942. He died September 3, 2011.
Delfred "Del" Few Fambrough was born in Mount Pleasant, Texas, on November 16, 1923. She grew up in Longview and moved with Don to Lawrence in 1946. She completed a bachelor's degree at East Texas State and obtained her Master's degree in education from the University of Kansas.
After completing her studies, Del worked as an English teacher in the Lawrence area. Though she primarily taught at Lawrence High School, she also taught at Central Junior High School. She was awarded the Lawrence High School Oustanding Teacher Award by Lawrence High seniors in 1971 and 1977, received the Allen Press Distnguished Teacher Award in 1987, and became a member of the White House Committee Presidential Scholar Program in 1986.
Del died November 17, 2001.

Arrangement
Materials removed from a box with notes reading "Don Fambrough's KU Football Coaching Career 1948 - 1953 and 1958 - 1982"; "Don's coaching days - mostly newspaper clips"; and "Don's career." No further arrangement was apparent other than what these notes stated, so Spencer staff oranized the materials according to type, grouping photographs, newspaper clippings, etc. together.
