Biography of Jeanne Klein (1952- )

Jeanne Marie Klein was born September 6, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan. She earned her bachelor's degree in communications with emphasis in theatre from Western Michigan University in 1974, then went on to earn her Master of Arts degree in theatre from Michigan State University in 1981.

Klein worked as a teacher at local high schools and universities before she joined the University of Kansas (KU) in 1984. She earned her doctorate degree in theatre from KU and joined the KU faculty in 1987.

Klein’s research and personal interest in youth theatre began while she worked as a summer youth theatre director in 1981. She directed Theatre for Young People (TYP) while at KU from 1984 - 2007 and participated in several different TYP organizations, especially ASSITEJ, or the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People. Her research and academic work would lead to her winning several research awards from children's theatre organizations and an honorable mention research award from the American Alliance for Theatre and Education (AATE).
