Overview

The William L. Scheirman collection contains materials relating to Lawrence, Kansas German families from Russia, including photocopies and original photographic prints. There is a letter to William R. Scheirman from Gladys Blackman, whose grandparents John Adam and Cath. Elizabeth Shireman or Schuermann immigrated from Russia; photographs of Scheuermann and Shireman relatives; a photograph of Turner Hall in Lawrence; a photo of a Scheuermann family home; and a photograph of a Scheuermann restaurant in Lawrence, Kansas. The photographs appear to date from the 1880s-1930s, and the letter is dated 1991.

Biography of William L. Scheirman (1921 - 2002)

William L. Scheirman was born November 17, 1921, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma A & M (Agricultural and Mechanical College) before serving in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a mechanical and chemical engineer after the war.

Scheirman married Marian Thomson on October 6, 1951, in Irving, Kansas. He was interested in genealogy and worked as an editor for Usu Leut, a newsletter for descendants of Germans from Russia. Scheirman was a member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, and its Kansas and Kansas City chapters.

William L. Scheirman died on February 8, 2002.
