Biography of Walter Meserve
Walter J. Meserve, Jr. was a professor of English, theater, and drama at the Univesity of Kansas (KU) from 1951-1968. He lived with his wife, Virginia, and children at Sunnyside Apartments from 1951-1955. His oldest daughter, Gayle, was born in 1950, Peter in 1953, Jo Alison in 1955, and David in 1961.
Meserve went on from KU to teach at Indiana University from 1968-1988 and then to City University of New York from 1988-1993 where he was a distiguished professor of theater and English. He was awarded numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities as well as a Guggenheim Fellowship from 1984-1985.

Content Description
Black and white photographs [36] mostly of Gayle Meserve in her infancy and early childhood at Sunnyside Apartments and other areas of the University of Kansas campus. Some photos include her parents and other children. Strong Hall, the Memorial Campanile and football stadium, and Frasier Hall are among the visible buildings. Most of the photographs are labeled with dates (1951-1953) or names.
