World War II era V-Mail form envelopes
Overview
The collection contains blank "victory mail" forms with instructions for enclosing photographs or microfilm, folding, sealing, and use. The blue and red envelopes are marked "United States Official V-Mail Envo-Letters." Victory mail, also known as V-Mail, was used from June 1942 to November 1945 to expedite and the lower the cost of mail service for American Armed forces overseas during World World II. Correspondence written on and included with the V-Mail forms would be censored, photographed, and then transported overseas on microfilm. Once at its destination, the microfilm would then be printed onto small paper sheets.
