Overview

The contract is handwritten and signed by members of the tribe, Shaler, and J. E. Badger, interpreter. The newspaper clipping is from the Long Island Daily Press [n.d.] and describes the contract. The letter is handwritten in the Kickapoo language and is addressed "Kecon Wahthas-Kuk" and signed "Kecon Shan-nah"

Biography of Shaler S. Nelson

Shaler was a trader who drew up the contract with the Kickapoo to allow credit to the Indians without taking unfair advantage of them.
