The letter is handwritten in the Kickapoo language and is addressed "Kecon Wahthas-Kuk" and signed "Kecon Shan-nah"

Biography of Shaler S. Nelson
Shaler was a trader who drew up the contract with the Kickapoo to allow credit to the Indians without taking unfair advantage of them.
