Scope and Contents
Maggie Herrington, an early Lawrence resident, kept a journal of her experiences during the year 1867 as part of a school assignment. Her entries are fairly regular, January through December, except for a break between June 8 and October 2, most likely due to summer vacation. In her journal, Maggie speaks of her school activities, her teacher, Miss Brown, friends, family, and issues of the times, i.e. woman suffrage.
The collection also contains two pieces of correspondence between the Watkins Community Museum of Lawrence, Kansas, and Lida Mattman, Maggie Herrington's granddaughter, dated 1979.
NOTE: The Kansas Collection holds a typed transcript of the original journal.
