Biography of Mary Whitcomb Hess
Mary Whitcomb Hess was a native of Indiana, and a long-time resident of Athens, Ohio. She earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Kansas (1926) and the master's degree at Ohio University. Her master's thesis in philosophy was published as The Name Is Living, a study of the life of Isaac Pennington, a Quaker mystic and the father-in-law of William Penn. A poet and author who published in scholarly journals and Catholic magazines, Whitcomb was first published in 1924.
