Personal papers of J. D. Stranathan
Overview
Stranathan taught Physics at the University of Kansas from 1920-1969. This collection consists of compass parts, slide rulers, an old calculator, and two scrapbooks compiled when Stranathan retired as department chairman in 1964.

Biography of J. D. Stranathan (1898-1981)
James Docking Stranathan received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1921 and his M.S. in 1924, both from the University of Kansas. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1928. Stranathan joined the KU faculty in 1920, reaching full Professor status in 1934. From 1941-1964 he served as Chairman of the Department of Physics. He retired in 1969 and passed away in 1981.
