Overview

One black and white reproduction of a photograph of a group of school children in front of a school in Tonganoxie, Kansas. Many of the students are identified. Several of the students are African American. Tonganoxie, a town in Northeast Kansas in Leavenworth County named after a member of the Delaware tribe, Chief Tonganoxie, was a destination for African American settlers throughout the 1860s-1870s.
