Overview This collection contains photographs of Eva Jessye, an African American choral conductor and educator best known for her long-standing musical direction of George Gershwin's opera, Porgy and Bess, beginning in 1935. The photographs are from Pittsburg State University in Kansas and the University of Michigan, where she established eponymous music collections in the 1970s.
