Overview In 1976, the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission contracted the Kansas Applied Remote Sensing (KARS) Program to complete a survey of Douglas County land use. KARS is a research program of the Kansas Biological Survey at the University of Kansas. The University of Kansas Center for Research (variously called “CRINC,” “KU Research Center,” and the “KU Center for Research,” or KUCR) is the entity that has traditionally obtained outside funding and support for KU research endeavors.
