This collection includes photographs from the 1951 flood that swept over Lawrence and Kansas City, Kansas. The photographs were taken by U.S. Navy Air Base of Olathe personnel, unit NA87-2098-7-51, but it is unclear who captioned the original album (a volunteer from the air base?). Descriptions in this finding aid make use of those captions.

Bill Stowits was in the Navy during WWII. His letter home recounts his activities from his last leave in September, 1944 to the closing of his letter, April 13, 1945. Also included is a photograph of the ensign.
