Ruth Mangelsdorf generated this collection of correspondence regarding Edgar Watson Howe, a reporter for the Atchison, Kansas Globe newspaper who became the owner of newspapers in Falls City, Nebraska, through the course of conducting dissertation research.

Edgar Watson Howe (1854-1937) was editor of E. W. Howe's Monthly and the Atchison (Kan.) Globe, as well as author of numerous books and articles. This collection contains correspondence to and from Howe dating from 1908 to 1933 and photographs of him, family members, and A.B. McDonald.

James P. Howe, an Associated Press foreign correspondent for 21 years, was the son of famous Kansas writer and newspaper publisher, Edgar Watson Howe, of the Atchison Globe. This collection consist of correspondence from 1956-1970, manuscripts of stories Howe was assimilatinginto a book, newspaper articles, legal papers, misc. short stories by Howe and other authors, and a scrapbook.
