James II and VII (1633-1701), king of England, Scotland, and Ireland. Letter to a woman (his mistress?) who will soon “be brought to bed” hoping that she will be back in London before long and informing her of political developments and of his probable movements with the royal court between London and Newmarket, which king Charles II (who had founded the race meetings in Newmarket) often visited. Concludes “...you shall always find me to be your most humble servant. J.” (identified as James II by handwriting). Dated September 29, 1682, London. Manuscript, ink on paper. 1 piece, folio sheet 23 x 17 cm (writing on 3 pages).
