Scope and Contents
Exchange (indenture:exchange) by John, son of John Rewe, and by the Abbot and convent of Abbey Dore, Herefordshire of Rewe's land held from the Lord of the Three Castles within Severenn forest near the brook Nantenarch "For the Abbey's land called Trodieffeld between Severenn forest and Trodi river to be held of the Lord of the Three Castles, paying 2/3 yearly.
Incipit: Notum sit omnibus sancte matris ecclesie filiis presentibus & futuris ita convenisse"

General
Seal is fragile; layers from half round back flaking off and stuck to cotton wool. Yellow, tan, round, 3 cm, one-sided. Device: sprigs? (possibly punning on Rue?)
Place: Great Britain: Welsh marches: Gwent: Grossomonte Court.
DATE: On the feast of Philip and James (1 May) in the 4th year of King Edward (20 Nov 1275 - 19 Nov 1276) Dated after list of witnesses: On the aforesaid day MCCLXX quinto (1275). ? Last letter of Severenn uncertain: could be thorn or y. Text says both abbot and John append their seals: only one seal ever attached. Calls itself a "I'littere Cirographate"
Early note on dorse: "Compositio inter nos & Johannem Rewe de Excambio terre sue apud Lanueyr pro terram nostram in trodiefeld."
