Scrapbook, February 3-May 6, 1989

 Item — Box: 1, Volume: 1
Call Number: MS Q79

Scope and Contents

Scrapbook made of newspapers from Asunción, Paraguay, and eleven photocopies from United States-based periodicals. The organization of the articles is chronological and follows the dates of publication from February 3rd to May 6th, 1989.

Publications of February 13th and 14th are missing, as well as the publications of February 17th-21st. There are fewer journals from March, April, May, and June, months after the coup, but those later items contain discussions of the political situation and the change from dictatorship to democratization. The El Pueblo issue from March 3rd, 1989, consists of a narrative political cartoon about Stroessner and his authoritarian regime.

From March 15th to the end of scrapbook, the journals document the election process. Most of the newspapers are complete, including advertisements, comics, and articles not related to the coup. However, some of the materials are either photocopies of foreign journals or articles by themselves. The last issue is El Pueblo for June 28th 1989, after the election that made Andrés Rodríguez the official president. Four of the articles in this scrapbook are photocopied and have been added to folder 2.

Articles are from the following newspapers: Hoy; El diario; Última hora; El pueblo; The Kansas City; Daily Journal; The Kansas City Time; and Journal World.
