Periodical photocopies, February 1989
Scope and Contents
Photocopies from periodicals organized not by date but by progression of the Rodríguez assumption of the Paraguayan Presidency. Most of the photocopies emphasize the end of Alfredo Stroessner’s repressive dictatorship as well as the change to democracy. Most of the articles are written outside Paraguay in Argentina and Brazil. Although they are from foreign countries, the articles stress the relationship between Paraguay and Brazil and reflect the situation of both countries. Brazil gave Stroessner asylum directly after his overthrow.
Articles also cover other topics concerning the political situation: press, church, elections, drug trafficking, and Stroessner's political asylum in Brazil.
Articles are from the newspapers La Nación; Clarín; O Globo; Jornal do Brasil; O estado de S. Paulo; and Crónica. They were written by Jorge Urien Berri (La Nación); Valdir Sanchez (O estado de S. Paulo); Cristian Bofill (O estado de S. Paulo); Rachel de Queiroz (Crónica)l; Mariano Grondona (La Nación); Otto Lara Resede (O Globo); Nielsen de Paula Pires (O estado de S. Paulo); Roberto Godoy (Clarín); Jorge Eduardo (O estado de S. Paulo); Joel Santos (O Globo); Victor Combothanassis (O globo); Juan Esteban Escurra (La Nación); Renato Lombardi (O estado de S. Paulo); and Getúlio Alencar (O estado de S. Paulo).
