The manner and forme of proceeding at the tryall of Donnald Lord Re[a]y and David Ramsay Esquire upon...[28 Nov] 1631 before...Lord High Constable...Earle Marshall...[et al]. England, 1632?

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 2

Scope and Contents

Reay claims that Ramsay told him of a plot by the Marquis of Hamilton to conquer Scotland. Ramsay calls Reay a liar, and will prove it by combat. The Court hears the case November 18, 1631 to February 18, 1632; gives rules for the combat, which should take place on April 12. Gives details of ceremonies and ornament, and the justification for holding the court.

This text closes with the rising of the Court. The King, however, imprisoned the parties in the Tower so that the judicial duel did not actually take place.

Different versions in State Trials, 1776, and Rushworth, 1680, v.2, pages 112-128.
