Professional materials, 1932 - 2009

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

Henry Remple's professional materials relate to his work for the Farm Credit Administration, the El Reno Federal Reformatory, the US Army, the Veterans Administration (VA), University of Kansas City, University of Kansas, and his private practice. Materials include reports, correspondence, clinic schedules, memoranda, event programs, committee materials (particularly from the VA), resumes, and Remple's personal notes. Further sub-series include professional correspondence, awards, teaching materials, publications, and other professional materials.

A significant portion of the VA materials relate to two scandals that occurred in the Leavenworth VA Medical Center during Remple's time there. Remple was not directly involved in either scandal, but provided testimony in legal proceedings relating to both affairs. One scandal involved an unethical clinical trial of an antidepressant called Anafranil. The other scandal involved the termination of whistleblower Mary Brothers and the demotion of her supervisor Mary McAnaw following their allegations of substandard patient care and unjust treatment of the Anafranil whistleblower.
