Written to "My dear Torwoodlee" [James Pringle of Torwoodlee (1759?-1840)], indicating that he would be at Abbotsford until spring; local diplomacy [apparently over building the Selkirk-Galashiels Road]; mentions Alva [James Johnstone of Alva (1801-1888)], Fairmilee [John Pringle of Haining and Clifton, died 1831]; and Robert Pringle [of Torwoodlee, died 1842].
