"Who" draft and printed versions

 Series
Call Number: MS 112

Scope and Contents

A.J. Budrys wrote a short story called "Who" to accompany the cover of the April 1955 Fantastic Universe issue, an image of a partially prosthetic man painted by Kelly Freas. Budrys later expanded the short story into a novel. The draft in this collection is a late typed draft of that novel with stylistic changes in pencil and editorial changes (mostly making ready for the printer) in ball-point ink.

The manuscript was printed in two different paperback versions (both in the collection). Pyramid Book's version had a cover by Engle; Lancer Book's version has the Freas cover, slightly changed, and the dedication "For Frank Kelly Freas, who first created Martino, and to Walter Fut, who saw him last."
