page 20: letter from John S. Gairdner (active 1872-1883), 3 pages in length (1 piece), dated 11 May 1872: My brother's difficulties with the Town Council (probably William Tennant Gairdner, Glasgow); the Corporation in "dear, dirty Dublin"; the "Medical Press"; our passage round Land's End here.

page 31: letter from Gairdner dated Wednesday [1873?], 2 pages (1 piece): Missed your lecture [probably Faraday and his Experiments, 11 February]; perhaps you can repeat the experiments elsewhere. Chaffing on Tichborne's doctorate.

pages 43, 45: Letters from Charles Tichborne's father Samuel W.L. (1801-1879), dated 28 August 1872 and 6 September 1874 (3 letters total): On Loveridge; the Tichborne Claimant; stupidity of Huxley and Tyndall; first causes; our ancestor Robert.

page 50: Letter from Mary Power Lalor, dated Friday [1872 or later], 2 pages: Here are the proofs of your report which I propose printing next week.

page 65: Letter from David Richard Pigot (1797-1873), dated "Wednesday" from either 1872 or 1873, 4 pages (1 piece): On the controversy over small farming.

page 67: Letter from Samuel Ferguson (1810-1886), dated January 7, 1884, 2 pages (1 piece): On Gairdner's scheme: the pneumatic tube in the river-bed for mails could also carry water and gas pipes.

page 68: letter from Gairdner dated 17 December, 1883, 7 pages: Arrival in Rome, Italy; customs here would be an obstacle to Mr. Draper's daughter coming to Rome. Samuel Ferguson's scheme could be refined into a great pneumatic tube for goods (not passengers) in the bed of the Liffey; Manchester's railway.
