Scope and Contents
This sub-series contains material related to Harkness's work in the Kansas Department on Aging (KDOA) and includes newsletters, study results, survey highlights and fact sheets, educational publications, state aging agency directories and profiles, fact books, state plans on aging, aging advocacy publications, assessment reports, memorandums and personal correspondence, steering committee minutes, and records concerning the creation of the KDOA and senior issues such as guardianship and social security.
This sub-series also includes reference material concerning senior legislation such as the Americans with Disability Act, Older Americans Act, Senior Care Act, and the Campaign Finance Act, as well as state programs and services for seniors such as the In-Home Nutrition Program, the Adult Day Care Model Project, Kansas Guardianship Program, Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, and the Older Americans Advocacy Assistance Program.
With material created by the KDOA, this sub-series also contains records referencing various local, state, and national aging and healthcare agencies and nonprofit or advocacy organizations, including the Kansas Association of Homes for the Aging, Kansas Association for the Medically Underserved, Kansas Association of Area Agencies, Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, Kansas State Advisory Council on Aging, and the National Association of State Units on Aging
Sub-series also contains material related to the Governor's Conference on Aging, including conference booklets, proceedings, schedules, reports, programs, memorabilia, and issues papers presented at the conferences.
Material was arranged in rough alphabetical order by Spencer processing staff, and Governor's Conferences on Aging material was separated out by year for ease of access.
