Scope and Contents
This sub-series contains material related to Harkness's work on the Kansas Silver Haired Legislators (KSHL) Steering Committee and the Financial Subcommittee. The KSHL was established in 1982 under a 1969 Congressional act and consists of a unicameral legislature with 125 representatives, all individuals over the age of 60 and elected from their county of residence. Certain counties, including Wyandotte, Johnson, Shawnee, and Sedgwick, each have additional representatives.
Material in this subseries includes pamphlets, bylaws, guides, session handbooks, correspondence, summaries of silver haired legislature bills and resolutions, committee meeting minutes, election guidelines, rosters, newsletters, and publications related to the KSHL and various aging agencies.
