General
London. Letter to Robert Shee. Your last of 13 August NS received. Court of Directors and Trustees of SS Co adjourned, so I couldn't deliver Holzendorf's letter yet; Sir John Lambert will help. Ungrateful Spain! England only helped her because of the Asiento which she now evades. Influence of the Queen and the Emperor. Have done all I can to promote mutual advantage of Great Britain and Spain; appreciated here but not there. Now I am asked to meddle on behalf of the SS Co in the Assiento, which is not well understood by them. Refusal of the Cedula based on the SS Co being unwilling to pay Alcavalars; based on 1718 answer to Directors of SS Company's Representation, as you know. Court of Spain should not interrupt commerce. I have not told SS Company of this but am telling you to pass to our Friend. The 10pc and seizure of the Bedford; poor SS Company. Negotiation about Reservations has taken too long
