1536: A rocky hill ('Caribou Knoll') about 150 feet above Windy River, looking SW from a ridge across the river from camp. Ancient beach terrace extending across the upper part of the hill. Black Spruce, Dwarf Birch, lichens. [In photo number 1567, Harper calls this 'Caribou Rest Knoll'. On this picture he has crossed through the 'Rest', leaving 'Caribou Knoll'] 1539: An ancient beach terrace of coarse gravel on the western shoulder of a 150-foot hill ('Caribou Knoll'). White spruce, Dwarf birch, Empetrum. [In the original comment the hill was entered as 'Caribou Rest Knoll.' The 'Rest 'was struck through, leaving 'Caribou Knoll'] 1540: Looking SSW. From a western spur of Windy Hills, about 500 feet high, and about a mile south of Windy River. Dwarf birch, Ledum palustris, Vaccinium uliginosum, Empetrum, Cladonia. 1541: Looking W from a western spur of Windy Hills, about 500 feet high, and about a mile south of Windy River.
