Dwarf birch, Crowberry, Vaccinium uliginosum, Cladonia, Rock lichens. 1676: Barren Ground Caribou scats, on a carpet of Cladonia, Vitisidaea, and Vaccinium uliginosum. (Not extremely fresh.) 1677: 'Stone men' on top of a knoll about 125 feet high, looking NE. Used somewhat as scare crows to keep Caribou from passing.
