Dine-A-Mite Inn Slides, 1939 - 1971
Scope and Contents
Most slides in this grouping are undated, but according to manuscripts in the collection, the Dine-A-Mite Inn was operated by the Borgen family from 1939-1962.
The interior of the Dine-A-Mite is identified by the large brick chimney and wood paneling. Slides depict patrons of all ages eating, drinking and dancing, sometimes in formal dress and/or uniforms, sometimes with leias and hats.
The few labeled slides in this grouping can be found in box 1. The labeled boxes were titled as follows: New Years Xmas Wichita, Porter and Sarah OK [Oklahoma?] O’Rorke, Misc. D.A.M. [Dine-A-Mite], Pin Party Pt. 1 and Everything at D.A.M., which depicts boating, football and exteriors of the Dine-A-Mite.
Box 2 is unlabeled slides, mostly interior shots of patrons at the restaurant.
Box 3 contains some glass slides and a few slides depicting Roy Borgen. In addition, box 3 has slides pertaining to the Borgens' subsequent business, a liquor store in the Hillcrest shopping center at 9th and Iowa Streets in Lawrence, Kansas. One set of slides, which had been processed in June 1962 with Roy Borgen as the customer, includes pictures of the interior of the liquor store. Also included is a group of slides processed for Chuck Borgen in October 1971, labeled Liq. [Liquor] Convention.
