Congressional papers and correspondence of D.R. Anthony Jr., 1907 - 1928
Scope and Contents
Topics include Anthony’s brother-in-law Koehler’s lawsuits, the 1924 Republican primary election in which the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) organized in favor of his opponent, a disagreement with the Huron Farmer’s Union, Anthony’s vote in favor of the 1924 Dyer Anti-lynching Bill, his appointment to the board of directors of the Kansas State Historical Society, and negotiating for the new Veteran’s Hospital to be located in Leavenworth.
Anthony received letters from the following associations: the American Legion, Disabled Veterans Association, United Spanish War Veterans, and the Negro National Educational Congress. White House letters signed by President Howard Taft are also included.
“The Early History of the Seventh Kansas Cavalry” and “The Seventh Kansas Cavalry: Its Service in the Civil War,” two pamphlets written by S.M. Fox for the Kansas State Historical Society, were also included in Anthony’s congressional papers.
