Cornwallis, Charles, 1st Marquess Cornwallis (1738-1805). Letter to Captain William Muse with thanks for his testimonial in favor of Captain Gordon (one of several received) but explaining that bringing Gordon into the regiment as Lieutenant Colonel so disturbed the officers that it seemed advisable to select some deserving Major of Fencibles in this country. Dated April 26, 1800, Dublin Castle. Manuscript, ink and pencil on paper. 1 piece, leaf 24 x 19 cm (writing on 2 pages). With photocopy of typescript seller’s description.
