Scope and Contents
A collection of twenty-seven volumes containing summary reports of Kansas county and city court cases which were adjudicated by the Supreme Court of the State of Kansas during the period 1862 to 1965. Reports of the county cases date from 1862 to 1964; reports of the city cases date from 1862 to 1965. The reports summarize Supreme Court cases in which either the plaintiff or the defendant was a Kansas county or city, or was an officer of the county or city, acting in an official capacity. Included are names of plaintiffs and defendants, case facts and reasoning, points of law, judgments, and names of presiding judges. Most reports of city cases are annotated with a brief description of the topic.
Original typescripts of the county case reports are contained in eleven paginated volumes at boxes 1 through 4. In box 5 are unpaged carbon copies of the county case reports for years 1862 to 1881 and 1917 to 1953.
Paginated volumes containing originals of the city case reports are in boxes 4 through 7, although volume 1 of Box 3 contains reports of both county and city cases. An insert in the volume, written on letterhead of the University of Kansas Governmental Research Center, notes this exception.
