Edith Marie Clarke papers
Overview
Edith Clarke's papers include correspondence and genealogical material about her family; correspondence with many prominent Lawrence, Kansas citizens and University of Kansas professors; papers pertaining to the University of Kansas Library and other libraries in Kansas around 1900; personal financial records, bank statements and tax receipts; and numerous photographs, greeting cards, and calling cards.

Biography of Edith Marie Clarke (1870-1957)
Edith Clarke, a Mayflower descendent and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), was born in Chetopa, Labette County, Kansas in 1870. Her father, Adam Clarke, was an agent for the Sac and Fox tribe. Clarke graduated from Lawrence High School in 1888 and the University of Kansas in 1895 with a bachelor's degree. She resided in Lawrence, Kansas most of her life but moved to a farm near Eudora, Kansas, during her later years.
From 1896(?) to 1915(?) Edith Clarke was an assistant librarian at the University of Kansas's Spooner Library. In 1902, she co-authored the Handbook of Kansas Libraries with Carrie Watson. Clarke was also a librarian at Baker University, Baldwin City, Kansas, in the late 1910s.
Edith Marie Clarke died in 1957.
