Scope and Contents
These letters are handwritten transcripts of the original letters. The transcriber is unknown. The Oren's letters, which date from September 6, 1863 to March 29, 1864, are to his wife, Sattie. In the correspondence Oren, who served as a captain in the Union Army, relates military camp life, observations about the war, Southerners, and the Union cause.
Oren was killed at City Point, Virginia on July 28, 1864.
The transcripts are incomplete, breaking off with a letter dated March 29, 1864.
