Biography of Marion Ellet
Marion Ellet was born December 9, 1898 at Concordia, Cloud County, Kansas. She worked for the Concordia-Blade Empire and was associated with the newspaper until her death, except for four years spent in New York.
In 1922, after graduating from Smith College in 1921, Ellet was a reporter for the Brooklyn Eagle in New York City. She also wrote book reviews for the New York Times.
After moving back to Concordia, Ellet's column "Mugwump Musings" appeared daily until 1994 in the Blade-Empire, as well as being picked up by several other Kansas newspapers. She was recognized as one of ten superior editors by the Kansas State Agricultural chapter of Sigma Delta Chi. Her column won the Kansas Press Association's Award for Excellence in 1986.
Ellet's writing was deeply influenced by her prairie roots and created a unique voice in Kansas for the greater part of the 20th century. She passed away on August 26, 1996 at Concordia.
