Russell R. Funk family papers
Overview
Russell R. Funk, a native of Nemaha County, Kansas, moved to Lemoore, California in the early part of the 1900s, where he practiced dentistry and played professional baseball. Funk's letters to his parents in Nemaha County's town of Kelly, which include letters to them from his wife, describe events in Funk's family life, dental practice and baseball career. The papers contain several communications from Funk's sister Edna and many 1934 Christmas cards received by his sisters Grace and Lowell while residing in Seneca, Kansas.

Biography of Dr. Russell R. Funk
Russell Richard Funk was born January 5, 1884 at Seneca (Nemaha County), Kansas to Abram and Elizabeth Funk. He had three sisters: schoolteachers Lowell and Grace Funk, and their older sister Edna (Mrs. Thomas Blackwell). Russell became a dentist while still living in Nemaha County. In 1912, he moved to Lemoore (Kings County), California, where he continued his dentistry practice and also played professional baseball. He married Edith Sophia Schlickeiser on December 31, 1913. Their son Russell Funk, Jr. was born April 3, 1920 at Lemoore.
