Guanetta Gordon literary manuscripts
The Guanetta Gordon Collection contains the work of a native Kansas poet and author, who was both that state's poet laureate and Arizona's Poet of the Year. The collection dates from 1953 to 1992 and is comprised of original manuscripts, worksheets, and drafts for the poems, articles, essays, and short stories written by Guanetta Gordon since 1953. The manuscripts in boxes 1-4 are arranged alphabetically by literary type.

Biography of Guanetta Gordon
Guanetta Gordon was born in Kansas. She was educated at Baker University (Baldwin, KS) and the University of Kansas. Gordon wrote seven books of poetry: Songs of the Wind (1952), Under the Rainbow Arch (1965), Petals From the Moon (1970), Shadow Within the Flame (1973), Above Rubies: Women of the Bible (1976), Red are the Embers (1980), and A Time of Destiny (1987). She also wrote the historical novel The Aurora Tree as well as contributions to numerous anthologies, journals, magazines, and other publications, both foreign and domestic.
Guanetta Gordon is a member of many writing organizations, including: The Poetry Society of America, The World Poetry Society, the Academy of American Poets, and the National League of American Pen Women, on whose board of directors she served. Gordon was named poet laureate of Kansas and, in 1980, Arizona's Poet of the Year. She also received special honors from Baker University and an honory doctorate in literature from the World Academy of Arts and Culture. Guanetta and Lynell F. Gordon married circa 1923. The couple had two children: Stewart and Krista.
