Overview

The Sons and Daughters of New England was an organization in Lawrence, Kansas for settlers from New England and their descendants and relatives by marriage. The collection includes the membership rolls of 1921-1926, secretary's records for 1921-1956, miscellaneous correspondence and newspaper clippings, the 1957 address, "The Contemporary Puritan" by Dr. George Anderson, the 1959 address "Last Yankee Crusade" by Allen Craften, and dinner cards from 1928 to 1938 and 1957.

History of the Sons and Daughters of New England

The Sons and Daughters of New England of Lawrence, Kansas, was founded on December 20, 1896, by a group of former New Englanders, their descendants, and relatives by marriage that settled in Kansas. The object of the organization was "the better acquaintance of members, preservation of love for New England, and the appropriate observance of Forefathers Day". Forefathers Day was celebrated each year by a dinner held on December 20. The organization's first officers were P. R. Brooks, president, Chancellor F. H. Snow, vice president, and Mrs. Paul Learnard, secretary.
