History of the Zodiac Club
The Zodiac Club was organized on February 5, 1878 by nine women from the Lawrence, Kansas area. Flavia A. Canfield, wife of James A. Canfield, was the first president. Along with others with business and academic community ties, Mrs. Canfield helped to make the club a successful women's study group. Over the years the club has met in members' homes every Tuesday to read and discuss items relating to "cultural improvement."

Records of the Zodiac Club, including yearbooks, photographs, and minutes of semi-monthly meetings, are located at RH MS 93 and RH MS 1279. Bound record books are located at RH MS C41 and RH MS C79, and oversize material is available at RH MS R329. A doll collection, created for the club's 65th anniversary, is available at RH MS Q61.
