Personal papers of Lucius E. Sayre
Sayre taught in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Kansas from 1885-1925. This collection consists of correspondence, articles, and essays from the 1920s written by Sayre, as well as Sayre's 1869 diary from when he was a student at the University of Philadelphia. The 1920s materials focus on medicinal chemistries, drugstores, and other topics related to Sayre's work.

Biography of Lucius E. Sayre
Lucius Elmer Sayre received his Ph.G. in 1866 and his Ph.M. in 1869, both from the University of Philadelphia. He joined the faculty of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Kansas upon its establishment in 1885, the third public school of pharmacy in the United States and KU's first professional program. He was named the first Dean of the School. Sayre stressed better education for pharmacists, evolving the program from a two-year to three-year program. He performed wide research on medicinal plants native to Kansas throughout his tenure at KU. He also held appointments with the Kansas State Boards of Health and Agriculture.
Lucius Sayre died in 1925.
