The Gilchrist family, beginning with Andrew Bryson Gilchrist and Mary Catherine Dunn, settled in Harvey County, Kansas, in the 1880's. The Gilchrists had six children, including Gertrude (1874-1973), Laura Belle (1876-1965), William Scott (1878-1930), Harriet Dunn (1880-1952), Golde Eleanor (1882-1961), and Beulah Buchanan (1884-1978). Descendants of Andrew and Mary Catherine resided in various Midwestern states, including Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, and Texas, among others. This collection includes many of Andrew and Mary Catherine's descendants' memorabilia. Five of the Gilchrist children married. Gertrude married John McConnell Douglas, Laura married John Beverly Gilchrist, William married Etta M. Lewellen, Golde married William R. Baer, and Beulah married Dr. Robert C. McClymonds. Beulah and Robert McClymonds had five children which feature prominently in this collection. Their five children and spouses include: Margaret Catherine (1910-1984) and Philip C. McKnight, Elizabeth Vance (1913-1998) and Thorold E. Roberts, Samuel Erskine (1916-2000) and Ruth S. Phelps McClymonds, Robert Clendening McClymonds, Jr. (1918-1997), Bryson Gilchrist (1920-1998) and Margaret Martha McGraw McClymonds. In addition to the Beulah and Robert McClymonds family, this collection also features the children and spouses of Thorold Eugene and Elizabeth Vance McClymonds Roberts, including: Clenece Louise Roberts (1938-) and James A. Hills, Thorold Erskine (1943-) and Denise, James Bruce (1948-) and Harlanne Roberts, and Bryson McClymonds (1954-) and Debbie Roberts.
