Overview

Susie Moore Whitney spent most of her early life in eastern Kansas, later settling in Kansas City, Missouri. This collection primarily consists of love letters to Whitney from her eventual husband, Charles Lincoln (C.L.) Whitney, as well as correspondence involving other family members, including father Ely Moore Sr., brother Ely Moore Jr., and sister Margaret M. Moore Seewir, between 1873-1890.

Biography of Susie Moore Whitney

Susie “Sue” Tomlinson Whitney (nee Moore) was born in Lecompton, Kansas on December 15, 1867. Whitney lived in eastern Kansas during her early life, was married to Charles “Chas” Lincoln Whitney (1864-1943) in 1889, and had two daughters, Muriel Whitney Sunderland (1893-1972) and Margaret (Peggy) Whitney Solan (1897-1998). Whitney died in Kansas City, Missouri on October 11, 1918.
