Biography of John Henry Eibest

John Henry Eibest was born on April 6, 1859 in Wheeling Township, Ohio County, West Virginia to Fredericke (Gehring) and Henry Eibest. After the Civil War, the family moved to Ross County, Ohio.

John left Ohio for Douglas County, Kansas around 1880 and started farming in Grant Township. He married Mary E. McCormick in Lawrence on December 24, 1889. The couple had a daughter, Jennie Bell Eibest, born in 1891, who was later a local school teacher.

Mary Eibest passsed away on September 28, 1912 at the age of 53. John Eibest passed away around 1939.

Scope and Contents

This collection covers Eibest family history; Lawrence, Kansas; and the daily life of a farmer in northeast Kansas. The associated papers are mainly property tax records, receipts for goods and services, a deed for a family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery, and Kansas driver's licenses for John Eibest.
