Earl Thompson letters
Overview
Earl Thompson was a critically acclaimed author born in Wichita, Kansas in 1931. This collection includes five of his personal letters written during his time in France to Harvey Ginsberg, his editor. The letters concern his novels, travels, and family life. In addition, there is one letter written by his children concerning his death in 1978.

Biography of Earl Thompson
Earl Thompson was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1931. He grew up during the Great Depression in a working-class neighborhood. After his brief service in WWII at a very young age, he went to the University of Kansas to study journalism in the early 1950s. He also studied at the University of Missouri and Columbia University.
Thompson published three critically acclaimed books: A Garden of Sand (1970), Tattoo (1974), and Caldo Largo (1976). A fourth, The Devil to Pay (1982) was published posthumously.
Thompson spent time in Europe later in his career. He died in Sausalito, California in 1978.
