Biography of Roger Martin (1946-2022)
Roger Paul Martin, born in 1946 and the son of Esther and Arthur Martin, graduated from the University of Kansas (KU) in the 1970s. He later had a 25-year career as a research reporter/writer/editor at the University of Kansas until approximately 2005, although he continued his work in other media for about 10 more years.
Martin served as the communications director for the Office of Research, Graduate Studies and Public Service at KU. He specialized in writing articles and media on research being conducted at the University of Kansas. The audience for his articles and media were non-scientists, i.e., the general public.
Martin taught classes, workshops, and seminars on writing and writing about science. Among other things, he was the editor for Explore magazine, a publication highlighting the research work at the University of Kansas. In 1995, the magazine evolved into a webzine on the internet. Martin was also a commentator for the University of Kansas' public radio station, KANU-FM, airing a bi-weekly segment on science topics.
