Biography of Louis C. Walbridge

Louie Chester Walbridge was born August 29, 1859 at Saratoga Springs, New York, the youngest of six children. He was first named Albert Edward, but when his sister, Louisa Chester, died before he was three years old, his name was changed to Louie Chester to retain the family names given to her.

Walbridge was educated at Riverview Acadamy, Poughkeepsie, New York and in his third year attended Peeksill Military Academy. After some governmental survey work on the Missouri River, he worked briefly as a photographer in St. Louis and at a hardware store in Chicago. Walbridge moved to Russell County, Ks in 1882, at the age of 23. Walbridge married Louise Rachel Castle in January 1892; she had been born in 1861. They had six children: Margaret Esther (1893-1974), Louise Chester (1895-1966), Caroline Knickerbacher (1898-1989), Anne (October 31, 1900), Chester Castle (1903-1984), and Henry Castle (1905-1949).
