Robert S. Lemon photographs
This collection consists of black and white photographic prints of various sizes of Robert Lemon, Sr., his wife Lois, their friends Kenneth and Helen Spencer, and other individuals in various candid shots. Images are mostly from Canadian fishing expeditions in the 1920s and 1930s or from Pittsburg, Kansas in the 1930s and 1940s.

Biography of Robert S. Lemon
Robert S. Lemon was born November 21, 1899 and attended high school in Pittsburg, Kansas before receiving his law degree from the University of Kansas in 1924. He served as judge of the Pittsburg city court from 1925-1928 and was county attorney for Crawford County from 1931-1935. In the 1940s he was an executive at the Jayhawk Ordnance Works, a military munitions plant run by Kenneth Aldred Spencer.
A Democrat, Lemon was a state senator, representing the 9th District, from 1937 to 1944 and was Democratic floor leader of the State Senate in 1943, as well as serving as a member of the legislative council. He was also county chairman for the Democratic party in Crawford County in the 1940s. He was an unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate in 1944 for the Kansas governorship, which went to standing governor Andrew F. Schoepel.
Lemon served both the Crawford County Bar Association and the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce as president. He was married to Lois, with whom he had two children: Letty and Robert S. Lemon, Jr.
