History of the Lawrence Association of Neighborhoods (LAN)

Lawrence Association of Neighborhoods was founded in the 1980s to promote communication and interaction amongst the various neighborhood divisions in Lawrence, and continues to host monthly meetings. Their goals, as described on their website, include providing opportunities for networking among neighborhoods for the sharing of resources, information, and expertise; encouraging and assisting in the development of new neighborhood associations within the City of Lawrence boundaries and the Urban Growth Area; encouraging the cooperation of neighborhoods with similar concerns in order to facilitate the achievement of their common goals; identifying more efficient ways to evaluate the effects of city government policies, services, and programs on neighborhoods; and encouraging accurate and timely feedback to city officials on neighborhood concerns and issues regarding city policies, services, and programs.
