Overview

This collection consists of photographic prints and tintypes of African Americans, taken in eastern Kansas in the latter half of the 19th century. The posed and informal portraits had been compiled into an album that has been disbound due to severe deterioration. Images include individuals and groups of babies, children, and adults; most of the photographs were taken in studios and are posed in exterior or interior settings.

This collection consists of cartes de visite, cabinet cards, paper prints, and other mounted prints of African Americans, many apparently from Missouri and others from other parts of the Midwest and Northwestern United States. Some of the images are identified, many are not. The collection is roughly organized by photographic process and then by identified groups or individuals first, unidentified following.

Collection of tintypes, cabinet cards, memorial cards, and other mounted photographs of African Americans from Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. Many photographs are unidentified or tentatively identified, and very few are dated, but they probably all date from the last half of the 19th century. Photographers are noted in the finding aid when known.

Overview Scrapbook with a cover title of "My Book of Stunts and Frolics," kept by Kansas native Rhoda Louise Meredith. The volume includes sections for "Stunts and Frolics," "Social events," "Athletics," "Snapshots," and "Miscellaneous," among other sections; not all sections are filled out. Glued into the scrapbook are newspaper clippings and photographs, in addition to inscriptions written by Meredith and by her friends and family.
